Department Mission Statement 

The mission of the Hearne ISD history department is to aid students in the

development of an appreciation of the discipline of history as a tool for critical thinking,

to develop an understanding of the process of historical research and writing and the

gaining of the substantive knowledge as well as the accurate reconstruction and

interpretation of the collective experience of the world’s people and geography.


The Big 5

The History and Social Studies department places a laser focus on concepts in which, historical, students have struggled and/or are prominent skills needed to demonstrate knowledge on STAAR/ EOC exams. These concepts are:

1. Mapping Skills

2. Point of View of ALL peoples

3. Writing Skills (A.C.E. Strategy)

4. Sequencing

5. Primary Document/ Critical Thinking/ Research Skills
